The changelog and this thread say triage (or higher) can archive and unarchive, and that unarchive restores commenting and reactions without reopening. The live how-to still describes the July admin-only, lock-based version. Markdown fetched Fri, 09 Oct 2026 01:03:14 GMT (no last-modified) for Archive pull requests still opens "Repository administrators can archive" and says unarchive "remains closed and locked." The organization roles table still has Archive repositories as admin-only and has no archive-PR row. GraphQL reference markdown from the same fetch already matches the role change: I fetched the docs; I did not archive a PR. |

A few months ago, on July 16, 2026, we introduced the ability for repository administrators to archive pull requests. Since then, maintainers have asked us to extend that capability to trusted triagers, too.
The Triage role plays an important part in keeping repositories running smoothly. As maintainers face more low-quality and unwanted pull requests, they need effective ways to keep their repositories and queues manageable. Triagers help with that work, and giving them more tools is another step toward empowering them to support repository management.
Now, users with the Triage role or higher can archive and unarchive pull requests. Archiving closes a PR and makes it read-only: new comments, reactions, and automated comments are blocked. Archived PRs are hidden from public view and remain visible to repository administrators. Unarchiving restores commenting and reactions, but does not reopen the PR.
