Keyboard scroll-back not available in alternate screen buffer #3470

Description

@MSFTTracyP

Problem

When running the Copilot CLI, the terminal uses an alternate screen buffer which disables normal keyboard scroll-back (Shift+PgUp, Ctrl+Shift+Up, etc.). This makes it difficult to review prior output without a mouse.

Current workarounds

  • /search to find content by keyword
  • Ctrl+O / Ctrl+E to expand collapsed timeline entries

Request

Please consider one of:

  1. Adding keyboard shortcuts for scrolling within the CLI viewport (e.g., Shift+PgUp/PgDn or similar)
  2. Offering an option to disable the alternate screen buffer so native terminal scrollback works
  3. A pager-like scroll mode (similar to tmux copy-mode) activated by a keybinding

Environment

  • OS: Windows 11
  • Terminal: Windows Terminal
  • CLI version: 1.0.52-1

    @examon

    This is now supported in v1.0.52: in alt-screen mode you can use PageUp/PageDown to scroll, and Home/End to jump to the top or bottom of the scroll buffer (when the text cursor is at the start/end of the prompt). These keys aren't currently listed in /help. If you believe this isn't resolved, please comment with details and we'll take another look.
